The Kizer C01c Ki3488A4 Carbon is a mini version of the Sheepdog model, designed by Chris Conaway of the Sheepdog Knives manufacturer.
The blade with a sheepfoot profile is made of premium CPM-S35VN steel and hardened to 58-60 HRC. A blade made of such steel is ideal for EDC knives because it is wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant, retains its edge for a long time, and is relatively easy to sharpen. CPM-S35VN contains niobium carbides which, in combination with carbon, increase the hardness of the steel by 15 to 20% (compared to CPM-S30V). The addition of vanadium improves strength and impact toughness and also creates fine-grained carbides of enormous hardness that increase blade strength. Molybdenum is another important alloying element that influences wear resistance. To make the sharpening process easier and faster, we recommend using diamond sharpeners like the Work Sharp Guided Field Sharpener.
The wide blade has a robust tip and a straight cutting edge with a flat grind, allowing the knife to handle even heavier tasks with ease. The blade features a stonewashed finish, whose uneven texture effectively conceals minor scratches from the knife's use. Thanks to the use of ceramic bearings and a flipper, the blade opens easily and smoothly with one hand. This method of deployment is suitable for both right- and left-handed users. A classic liner-lock is used to secure the blade. When the blade is unfolded, the locking function is taken over by a spring-loaded liner that rests against the back of the blade, thus protecting it from locking. The liner-lock is valued for its simplicity, functionality, and high resilience.
The knife features profiled carbon fiber liners attached to steel reinforcement inserts. Key advantages of carbon fiber include lightness, strength, and a distinctive appearance. The contoured handle with its characteristic milled lines has excellent ergonomics and fits perfectly in any hand. Carrying the knife in your pocket is facilitated by a spring clip, which is mounted in the tip-up position (not reversible).
