Description
The Windlass Mainz Type Gladius is a faithful replica of the iconic Roman sword that played a crucial role in the success of the Roman army. Crafted with precision and attention to historical detail, the Gladius is a tribute to an era of pragmatic warfare.
It was no coincidence that the Roman army chose the Gladius as their primary weapon. It was selected for its practicality, efficiency, and exceptional quality in close combat. With this sword in hand, the Roman legions conquered a large part of the known world. The inspiration for this replica comes from original pieces excavated in the ruins of Pompeii, as documented in H. Russell Robinson's book "What The Soldiers Wore On Hadrian's Wall."
The early Gladius, like this Mainz pattern model, is characterized by its distinctive wasp-waisted design and a long point, combining cutting and thrusting capabilities in a compact weapon. The handle of this Mainz pattern replica is made of bone, and the scabbard is adorned with intricate brass embellishments, adding a touch of elegance to the historical reproduction.
Crafted by Windlass Steelcrafts from high-quality carbon steel, this Gladius is razor-sharp and ready for action. It comes with a matching wooden scabbard with a leather overlay and brass accents, enhancing its overall appearance.
