Tenable Bömur: Truly Controversial

The Tenable Bmbur is the first model from the still young brand that did not previously appear under Kansept. It was designed by the German manufacturer Midgards Messer.

You can tell just by looking at the knife: This is one of the bold designs by Dirk Hofmeister. Photo: Tenable Knives

Few knife designers spark as much discussion in relevant forums as Dirk Hofmeister, the man behind Midgards Messer. His knives are anything but ordinary: they are thick, heavy, and often look quite brutal. But that's exactly what they are meant to be, as Midgards Messer has taken a different path since its founding in 2017 compared to other companies. And many people seem to appreciate that. This includes Tenable Knives, the young subsidiary of the Chinese manufacturer Kansept Knives, which has now released the Bmbur, previously available in a small batch from Midgards, as a more accessible production model.

The model was named after the "cozy and stout" dwarf from The Hobbit movie, Tenable writes about the knife. It is meant to embody "both its strength and reliability." The Bömbur is "built for hard use" and feels "indestructible in hand with its chunky, oversized design." The D2 steel, which ensures solid cutting performance and easy resharpening, was definitely adopted from the small Midgards edition. However, there are differences in the handle material: while the original model was still equipped with titanium handle scales, Tenable, also to reduce costs, relies on G-10, carbon fiber, or G-mascus, a special G-10 patented by Hogue. The framelock was also replaced by a linerlock, which locks the blade just as securely. The Bömbur is thus the first knife for Tenable Knives that has not previously appeared at Kansept. And with Midgards, they have another strong partner on board.
