Hanwei Shaolin Dharma Sword

Shaolin Dharma Sword

Bodhidharma, a Buddhist monk who lived in the 5./6. century, is revered for his introduction of Zen to China via the Shaolin Monastery, which became the birthplace of Zen in China. He was born into an Indian noble family, then became a monk, traveled through Southeast Asia, and possibly reached China in the early 5. century. He was the 28. patriarch of Buddhism, in a lineage that can be traced back to the Buddha himself.

Bodhidharma's association with Buddhism is legendary, and many famous accounts mention his name, as he introduced a series of exercises to the Shaolin, which evolved into their world-renowned martial arts. The lotus flower, one of the emblems of the Shaolin Temple, is indicative of the spirit of Zen, where Dharma achieved a meditative state, thus being able to separate all external influences from the mind and gain a clear view of reality.
