Description
Saxon Sword with Scabbard
This beautiful reconstruction of a one-handed Saxon sword was modeled after various preserved – or partially preserved – original specimens from the 5th and 6th centuries AD (Migration Period).
In its design, this one-handed sword is a classic example of an early medieval Germanic weapon.
It features a wooden grip, a short, sturdy guard, a generous pommel, and a broad, straight, double-edged blade made of EN45 spring steel with a wide, long fuller. The edges are not sharpened, and the full tang is screwed at the end of the handle. As with many originals from this period, the pommel here is also composed of several riveted parts. The guard features the same three-part construction, consisting of a wooden interlayer between two cast brass elements, providing beautiful contrasting accents.
This decorative, affordable one-handed sword comes with a black wood/leather scabbard featuring a brass chape and locket.
Please note that this sword is not suitable for stage combat. It is designed as a collector's item or decorative object and is also excellently suited as a prop, e.g., to complete your costume.
Details:
– Material: blade made of EN45 spring steel (carbon steel, non-stainless), guard and pommel made of wood and brass, handle made of wood
– Total length: approx. 101,5 cm
– Blade length: approx. 84 cm
– Blade thickness: approx. 4 mm (cutting edges approx. 1 mm)
– Handle length: approx. 17,5 cm (grip section approx. 10 cm)
– Max. blade width: approx. 4,3 cm
– Balance point: approx. 21 cm before the guard
– Incl. wooden scabbard with genuine leather covering and brass fittings
– Weight without scabbard: approx. 1,26 kg
– Weight with scabbard: approx. 1,83 kg
The above specifications may vary slightly from piece to piece.
The steel used here is not stainless and may show slight signs of corrosion. We recommend regularly maintaining the blade, e.g., with Ballistol, a universal oil that is excellent for preserving steel goods.
