Description
John Lee Imori Katana
Masterpiece of Asian smithing
– The sharpened blade of the sword is hand-forged from carbon steel (not stainless) and tempered.
– The handle (tsuka) is made of wood and covered in genuine ray skin (same).
– The tight handle wrapping made of dark blue cotton is executed in the traditional katate maki style (so-called battle wrapping).
– The fittings (tsuba, fuchi, menuki, kashira) show a golden newt.
– The sword tang is extra long and secured in the handle with 2 bamboo pins (mekugi).
– The scabbard (saya) is made of wood.
– The blade collar (habaki) is made of brass.
– Crafted based on museum originals.
Imori is the term for the Japanese (mountain) newt. The golden ornamental newts on the fittings are unmistakable, giving the otherwise simply designed sword its name.
Details:
– Blade material: carbon steel
– Blade length to tsuba: approx. 71 cm
– Total length without scabbard: approx. 100 cm
– Handle length: approx. 28,5 cm
– Weight without scabbard: approx. 1,3 kg
– Weight with scabbard: approx. 1,5 kg
