Description
Bamboo Katana
In 1876, samurai were forbidden from publicly carrying their swords. This attempt to end a thousand-year tradition was not accepted by the proud warrior class, and thus the cane katana was born. The revered blades were now hidden by harmless walking sticks, but the katana persisted.
The Bamboo Stick Katana by Hanwei combines an artfully carved bamboo scabbard and handle with a blade (Nagasa) that has been hand-forged from 1065 carbon steel and traditionally clay-tempered. The hardness of the edge and the resilience of the blade body, resulting from this technique, embody the true secret of the samurai sword.
From Hanwei.
