Kizer Harpoon 1040

The Kizer Harpoon 1040 is a handy fixed-blade EDC knife developed in collaboration between Kizer Cutlery and James Buckley of Maverick Customs.

The Kizer Harpoon 1040 is a medium-sized fixed blade knife, ideal for everyday carry (EDC) or outdoor tours. The Harpoon knife has a full-tang construction, meaning it is made from a single piece of steel. Knives with this construction are resistant to mechanical damage, which is why they are very popular among survival and bushcraft enthusiasts, as well as hunters and travelers.

High-tech wire cutting machines were used to cut out the individual components of the knife, guaranteeing precision and a perfect fit of the parts. The blade is made of D2 carbon steel, which is characterized by high abrasion and wear resistance, very good edge retention, and above-average cutting performance.

Although it is a carbon steel, the highly hardened D2 steel has high corrosion resistance thanks to its increased chromium content and the addition of vanadium. Thanks to these properties, the harpoon knife can be successfully used as an outdoor tool.
If you decide on a knife made of D2 steel, it is worth buying a diamond sharpener, as sharpening with a normal ceramic whetstone can be very laborious and inefficient.

The harpoon-inspired shape of the blade has a wedge at the tip and a notch on the spine, where the index finger can rest for precision cutting. The blade has an optimal length of 94 mm, making the knife suitable for both food preparation and wood chopping.
The blade has a flat grind that offers an excellent compromise between durability and a smooth cut. The blade is protected with a black powder coating with high abrasion resistance against corrosion.

The knife's handle consists of Micarta scales attached to the bolster. Micarta is a composite material made from thermoset plastic and canvas. Micarta is lightweight, has high mechanical strength, and is resistant to moisture, temperature, and many solvents and acids. At the end of the handle, there is a hole for paracord or a strap. Daily carrying of the knife on a belt or gear is facilitated by a Kydex sheath, which is equipped with double-sided loops secured with metal fasteners.
