LifeStraw, developed by Vestergaard Frandsen, is an innovative water filter that removes turbidity and microorganisms (bacteria and parasites) larger than 200 nm from water. The filter, a 310 mm long and 30 mm wide plastic tube, uses hollow fiber technology to remove particles without the use of chemicals. A LifeStraw filter can purify up to 1000 liters of water and has been used in crisis situations such as the Haiti earthquake in 2010 and the floods in 2010 in Pakistan and 2011 in Thailand.
