Hanwei Hunter Katana

Hunter Katana

The Hunter Katana features an L6/Bainite blade in Shinogi Zukuri style and excellent Koshirae, making it a coveted and highly functional piece.

The muted green silk Ito and striped green Saya complement the blackened iron Tsuba with its golden accents, depicting a hunting bird of prey.

Bainite is a carbon steel microstructure that combines great strength with excellent flexibility and impact resistance. For the production of Katana blades, bainite has been known as an excellent component for several years, but until now it has only been used by absolutely top-class master smiths, as the production of Katana blades with a bainite body and an extremely hard martensite cutting edge (yakiba) is a very difficult process that requires a demanding heat treatment procedure.

Hanwei has now mastered this difficult process and uses L-6 tool steel (a very robust, low-alloy carbon steel) as the basis for manufacturing this katana sword. The blades are forged as usual and then carefully heat-treated to achieve optimal bainite and martensite formation. Finally, they are polished.

You can complete your collection with the matching Hunter Wakizashi (item number SH2472).
