The Helle Sigmund was created based on a design by Torodd Helle, the owner of the Norwegian knife manufacturer. The knife comes with a drop-point blade made of Helle's typical three-layer steel, which is quite flexible yet very sharply ground. The handle also has a typical Scandinavian shape and consists of a mixture of beech and ebony, rounded off by black leather washers.
Helle provides the Sigmund, like almost all other fixed-blade knives, with an authentic leather sheath with a belt loop.

Helle Sigmund – manufactured in the year 2012, representing 80 years of company history.
The blade was designed in the 1930s by Sigmund Helle, the handle by his son Torodd. The center piece of the handle, made of dark oak rings separated by thin pieces of leather, offers a beautiful contrast to the light beech blocks.
This alone makes the knife interesting, as beech – especially in Scandinavia – is rather rarely used for knives. Another highlight is the leather sheath, which is printed with motifs designed in the 1950s for the legendary Fjellkniven.
All this together gives the Sigmund a unique overall impression. One doesn't need to say much about the superb quality of the workmanship and the sharpness of the blade on Helle knives – everything is just right here.
The knife sits very well in the hand, and it did a great job making matchstick shavings for last weekend's winter barbecue fire.
Very well made, sharp, fits well in the hand and looks fantastic.
