Grohmann Knives

Grohmann Knives is a family-owned business with an impressive history and a global reputation for quality. Originally from Czechoslovakia, Rudolph Grohmann founded the company in Nova Scotia, Canada, after World War II, at the invitation of the government, to realize his vision of a knife factory. Despite setbacks, such as the closure of Pictou Cutlery, where Grohmann initially worked, and subsequent varied jobs, he remained true to his passion and began designing and manufacturing his own knives.

Grohmann Knives gained renown for its distinctively designed knives, developed in collaboration with outdoor expert Deane H. Russell to create a truly Canadian sport knife that would challenge traditional designs. The company, officially founded in 1961, remains family-owned and is now led by Michael Babinec Jr. and his daughter Michelle. It employs approximately 25 people and has steadily expanded its product lines, featuring several series of kitchen knives as well as award-winning outdoor knives sold worldwide. At Grohmann Knives, knifemaking is considered both an art and a craft, requiring up to 53 steps from raw material to finished product.
